Recapping this year’s AWS re:Invent 2022

AWS reInvent

Amazon recently concluded their five-day long conference, AWS re:Invent 2022. This year’s conference was hybrid with the company streaming a significant portion of their in-person conference for free.

For ten years now, the event has seen attendees across the cloud continuum come together to learn, share and get inspired. This year was no different as we saw some of the biggest names in cloud computing make their presence felt at the conference in Las Vegas.

On our blog, we present a glimpse of key takeaways and top announcements from the conference.

AWS re:Invent 2022

As noted earlier, AWS re:Invent is an annual conference organized by Amazon Web Services (AWS) for developers, cloud specialists, customers, and partners. The conference features keynote speeches, training and certification opportunities, hands-on workshops, and various sessions focused on AWS technology and services.

The event is one of the largest cloud computing conferences, with thousands of visitors congregating under one roof to learn about the next-generation advancements made within this space. This year was no different – there were tracks across AI/ML, spatial simulations, cybersecurity, supply chain and data governance, allowing visitors to curate their experience based on their interest and personal goals. While the primary venue for the conference was at the Venetian Casino and hotel, sessions took place at various other locations along the strip – from Wynn to Caesar’s.

For those who weren’t able to make it to the conference, sessions are now available on demand. Presenting top three highlights from our experience at the conference below:

1. “Everyone at AWS Carries a Pager”

The statement above was in verbatim from Barry Cook, VP of Kubernetes. It immediately caught the team’s attention as it was spoken in relation to how Barry’s Kubernetes team maintains AWS clusters reliably for their customers. For those new to incident alert management, pager is a colloquial term used to refer to paging phone applications.

Beyond the prompt and reliable delivery of alerts that brings attention to critical issues, paging applications also facilitate on-call management and post-incident analysis. A statement made to this effect by an industry leader only goes on to further reinforce the value of incident alerting applications in delivering phenomenal customer experiences.

2. Addressing Supply Chain Challenges with Cloud

Disruption in the supply chain that the world experienced in 2020-2021 has had significant ramifications, from inflation to unemployment in certain industries. With much of the stability of the global economy underpinned by international supply chain snags, it’s only imperative to explore ways in which technology can solve these problems.

AWS announced its foray into supply chain management with the launch of a cloud application that leverages machine learning and cloud computing principles to help organizations gain visibility across their supply chain to make informed, data-driven decisions and optimizations.

Beyond gaining visibility into the supply chain and receiving actionable insights, the cloud-based application also helps reduce errors and drive collaboration among team members by providing employees with a platform to streamline communication across teams.

3. Better data governance

Data is only as good as how it’s governed. This was the theme that surfaced from the insightful keynote presented by Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President, Data and ML. In order to bring new experiences to life for their customers, organizations must have good governance as the foundation that makes data accessible to the organization.

Considering the importance of striking balance between data discovery and maintaining control, AWS launched a new data management service. The new service seeks to democratize data across organizations, so every employee can maximize its usage to their benefit.

Wrapping up

Overall, the conference was an action-packed, content-rich experience with sessions that extended across cloud, AI/ML, data governance and cybersecurity. Whether you’re a developer, customer, cloud specialist, partner, or simply a life-long learner, there was something for everyone at the conference. It served as a great opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in the field, gain valuable skills, and network with peers in the industry.
