How to Guard Against Cybersecurity Threats With Incident Alert Management

The current business environment requires organizations to implement cybersecurity safeguards to avert disasters associated with breaches, loss of data and hefty fines.

Simply implementing a cybersecurity plan isn’t enough, it’s also important to incorporate the right solutions and workflows to prevent a disaster.

This post will discuss the current state of cybersecurity, highlighting what organizations should be mindful of to successfully defend against malicious parties.

Cybersecurity in 2019: A Breakdown

According to ConnectWise, MSPs need to have a data backup plan in place, ensuring that client files are retrievable after a breach. Additionally, ConnectWise states that client contracts don’t protect MSPs from possible legal ramifications (i.e., court actions). That’s why MSPs need to understand their clients, learning what information is truly valuable to them and adopting solutions to protect those assets.

It’s also important for IT support teams to re-evaluate their security measures. ServiceNow suggests that organizations and teams develop baseline metrics, determining whether or not their security measures (e.g., channels for incident communications) are vigorous. Failure to do so results in data breaches or longer incident response times, impacting clients and their operations in the process.

Academic institutions and programs are also joining the cybersecurity conversation. For instance, the University of San Diego states that phishing strategies are becoming more sophisticated, preventing email users from differentiating between authentic and malicious messages. At its core, frequent email use is synonymous with cyberattack susceptibility and vulnerability.

Improving Cybersecurity Measures and Operations

IT support and MSP teams can enhance their cybersecurity measures by adopting an incident alert management solution. An intelligent alerting platform provides SSL encrypted communications, ensuring that team exchanges and messages are fully secure through a mobile application. In this way, teams can trade their insecure email inboxes for a more reliable form of communication (i.e., mobile app).

Additionally, an incident alert management solution integrates with remote monitoring and management systems (RMM) to deliver intelligent, mobile alerts regardless of time or geographical location. Twenty-four seven alerting speeds up incident resolution times for support and MSP teams, ensuring that client or stakeholder satisfaction levels are minimally affected.

Better yet, an intelligent alerting platform provides on-call schedules and persistent alerts. IT managers can add capable incident responders to an on-call rotation, who’ll then receive intrusive, audible mobile alerts, lasting for up to eight hours until acknowledged. Alert escalations complement these platform features, as they escalate incident notifications to the next group or on-call responder if a team member isn’t available.

Enhancing cybersecurity measures is a two-step process, requiring organizations to (1) establish baseline metrics and (2) adopt an encrypted and secure incident alert management solution. In this way, support teams and MSPs can fend off malicious threats faster to achieve customer service excellence and guard against business losses.
