Congratulations, VictorOps!
OnPage would like to congratulate our contenders at VictorOps for their acquisition by Splunk. This acquisition of VictorOps validates the growing need for incident management and alerting platforms.
As technology advances with sensors technology (IOT), and monitoring system utilizing AI, automation is necessary to achieve improved productivity and business resiliency. Therefore, incident management and alert automation is essential.
Notifying the right on-call person when an incident arises, ensuring redundancies are in place utilizing different methods of notifications, establishing escalation criteria to the next person or department on-call, sending a failover report to management if the incident is not responded to, having visibility via the time stamped audit-trail, and producing reports are just few of the ways that OnPage ensures business resiliency and mitigates MTTR.
Just like our peers at VictorOps, who believe that being on-call should “suck less”, OnPage believes that the DevOps quality of life should not be compromised, and free time should remain free. With OnPage, if you are not on-call, you should not be blasted when incidents arise. On-call management and automated alert escalation should disclose the incident only to those on-call and allow them to collaborate with team members using word doc, picture or voice mail attachments.
What else? Reporting! Reporting and audit trails are crucial for “lesson learned” sessions. At OnPage, we present you with out-of-the-box reports for a quick overview of your team’s work-load and response time to notifications. Not enough? Download your activity to CSV so you can run your own analysis.
To summarize, it is encouraging to see the current trend where an event aggregation company that monitors and analyzes machine-generated ‘big data’ such as Splunk sees the need to incorporate alerting and on-call management into their offerings.
